Minecon - Live demo of Scrolls and Cobalt Summary - #2 Livestream over IGN

The 2nd livestream session just finished a moment ago.

This time, it’s about developers panel of Mojang present their games demo, and answers questions.

Let’s see the following summary in timely manner.

Live demos of Scrolls and Cobalt from Mojang Team over IGN Channel on YouTube.

Cobalt team firstly demos their game.

Leader of Colbalt team, kinten, introducing himself and the team.

From left to right, Cobalt leader and lead developer of Cobalt team. I love these guys ! See mac book’s logo on the desk, notch’s realm.

Sound engineering guy for Cobalt team.

Starting of the live demo of Cobalt.

Bullet time, and precision timing to be able to dodge and interact with bullet like punching it back to where it cam. Lots of intense actions going on here.

Cobalt team’re answering questions from the audience.
Note the 3rd guy is artist of the team.

One of the audience asked about the avatar customization or whether or not can users choose the looks they want for themselves, the answer is YES.
Note: Sorry for capturing in wrong time, the thing you see in red is your customized avatar being hit by trap along the level.

It’s time for Scrolls. Jacob starts by introducing himself and the team.

He is funny guy starting to take a photo of the audience before begin.

Scrolls team, from the left to right as follows.
Team leader, back-end developer, and another twos are animator and artist.

The first look of Scrolls.
It’s still in pre-alpha stage, everything is only for demo. Its demo gives the core game mechanism and not the final quality.
I have seen lots of boring statement from viewers watching this via livestream channel, but anyway in the sense of developers, this still looks promising.

Card card card and card !

We played as the left, AI as the right. Each summoned once.
The game goes through the process of resource management, resource comes first then we can do anything.

Latter stage of the demo, more and more monsters being summoned along with the walls (shrine for the left side, and stone wall for the right side).

Wall can be used to block and protect the characters behind.

One thing to note, I’ve seen one glitch of graphics. Just see on the right side, the card was not fully pulled to the screen and only the card’s text was showed on top in the wrong place. O-O!

This is pre-alpha, I understand that.

As usual, Scrolls team answer questions from audience.
3rd guy is really funniest in answering question, he’s the saver for Scrolls team as there’re some pressure and not fully enthusiastic environment around there.

At last, all the members of Mojang came up on stage and all of them answers the questions coming from audience.
Only one soft rule applied, the one who questions can specifically name who (or team) in Mojang to answer the question.

Notch’s named to answer questions several times. I love his hat ! It’s really Swedish !

At last, Mojang closes the session. There’s going to be a party tonight, too bad there’s no livestream about that.

That concludes the session.

There’s going to be another 2 session tomorrow so stay tune.

- Add full video archive of this session here.
- Check Oxeye Game Studio’s website for their Cobalt game.
- Why Oxeye Game Studio could present their own games in Minecon ? It’s because some members of Mojang also take part in development of Cobalt as well. So this Minecon is like a family presentation of Mojang itself, not only Minecraft.
